OUR FIRST FULL DAY IN RIO

OUR FIRST FULL DAY IN RIO

We met our fellow travellers in the hotel lobby and set off for Sugar Loaf Mountain. The two cable car rides we took to get to the top was an experience. Not for anyone afraid of heights. We had a bus tour of the city centre which features architecture that reminded us of Europe ending up at the Cathedral of Rio. I know, I know - ABC - another bloody church but we were pleasantly surprised. It is in the shape of a giant cone and features beautiful stained glass windows reminiscent of La Sagrada.
Our guide showed us a street cafe where some Brazilian specialties are served. On our way back, we ducked into an out-of-the-way jewelry store that featured birds carved from semi-precious stones and had a lovely chat with the jeweller and his daughter. Was tempted but resisted. Then it was back to the hotel to prepare for a walk down to the other end of the Copacabana Beach. More beautiful bodies and some not so - in fact, we thought we would look at least as good as some of the bodies on display. The waves caught us unaware several times so we arrived back soaked from the thighs down. We changed into our bathing suits and took advantage of the hotel pool which is a public area and has Internet. Pictures to follow.
